NAO vs Semi-Metallic vs Ceramic: Our Friction Formulations Explained

Sep 2026 · 5 min read · Drum Brake Lining

Choosing the right drum brake lining isn't just about friction coefficient. The best formulation depends on your vehicle type, duty cycle, climate and budget. Here's how our three recipes compare.

1. NAO (Non-Asbestos Organic)

Our standard formulation. Good all-around performance, low noise, and gentle on drums. Ideal for city trucks, buses and medium-duty trailers. Service life: 70,000–90,000 km.

2. Semi-Metallic

With steel fiber added for higher friction and heat resistance. Better for heavy fleet, dump trucks and mining vehicles. Handles repeated hard braking without fade. Service life: 90,000–110,000 km.

3. Ceramic

Our premium formulation. Quiet, low dust, and very stable across temperature ranges. Preferred for premium European trucks and coach buses. Service life: 100,000–120,000 km.
